I began my career in education 23 years ago, right here at Liberty Elementary School. For the first 9 years I worked as a compensatory teaching assistant helping first grade students who needed extra help in reading and math. With encouragement from family and friends I decided to go back to school to get my teaching degree. While continuing to work, I began taking night classes at Southern Wesleyan University graduating with a B. S. degree in special education in 1995. Continuing my education, I returned to Southern Wesleyan earning my masters degree in education in 2003. Also in 2003 I earned National Board Teaching Certification in the area of exceptional needs. With an ongoing love for learning I continue to take many courses to help me reach the specific learning needs of the diverse learners in my classroom.
